Inpatient Care
ACE Unit
The Acute Care for the Elders (ACE) Unit on Greenberg 11 South at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine is a special elder-friendly unit that thrives on teamwork. The environment is designed to be warm and healing, with artwork on the walls and a day area with a view of the East River, where patients and families can spend time together. Our volunteers help patients remain active and engaged.
On the unit, the attending geriatrician, medical team, nurses, nursing assistants, dietician, social worker and therapists work together to provide care geared towards the special needs of the geriatric population. Maintaining a holistic perspective, they assess each patient's medical and psychosocial needs to achieve the best possible outcome.
Geriatric Consultation Service
When patients from the Irving Sherwood Wright Center on Aging or other outpatient programs require hospitalization at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine, the geriatric consultation service provides continuity of care. This service consists of an attending geriatrician, geriatrics fellow and other trainees who work closely with other staff to care for the patient. A major goal of the geriatric consultation team is to prevent or limit common problems in hospitalized older adults such as delirium, incontinence and immobility. Other New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine physicians request consultation for medical issues, such as wound care, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) assessment, gait disorders, perioperative management of older adults and other geriatric concerns.

Irving Sherwood Wright Center on Aging
The Irving Sherwood Wright Center on Aging is dedicated to providing comprehensive primary outpatient medical care to older adults to optimize health and day-to-day functioning. The Wright Center utilizes a team approach to address individual patient needs.
About Irving Sherwood Wright, MD
The Center is named after Dr. Irving Sherwood Wright, a pioneer in aging research, who at the age of 78 founded the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR). Dr. Wright received his undergraduate and medical school education from Cornell University, and later served as attending physician at the New York Hospital and professor of clinical medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, before becoming an emeritus professor in 1967. A renowned clinician, researcher and educator, Dr. Wright's groundbreaking contributions extend beyond the field of geriatric medicine; he was also an internationally recognized leader in cardiovascular disease.
The EGL House Call Program
The EGL House Call Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine is comprised of physicians and a geriatric nurse practitioner who provide home-based primary (and occasionally consultative) care for homebound older adults living in Manhattan. The service areas are primarily from 40th Street to 100th Street on the East and West sides of Manhattan.
Through support from The EGL Charitable Foundation House Call Program in memory of a remarkable woman, Clara Elizabeth Scheuermann, the EGL House Call Program includes a novel collaboration with DOROT, a well-established social service agency for older adults in New York City. This collaboration enables the provision of the highest quality medical and psychosocial care for homebound older adults in Manhattan. The EGL House Call Program continues its valuable educational role in the provision of geriatrics training to medical students, medical residents, and geriatrics and geriatric psychiatry fellows. The EGL House Call Program is also committed to research related to home care and health outcomes, cost effectiveness and palliative care.
